Israel accused of Jenin war crimes:

Israel has consistently maintained that there was no massacre at the Jenin refugee camp.

Its position was reinforced when the U.S Secretary of State, Colin Powell, declared that he saw no evidence of a massacre.

The United Nations was keen to investigate for itself but its delegation never made it to Jenin because of objections from Israel who questioned the expertise of the group and the UN's objectivity.

Now, a Human Rights Watch report into the Israeli army's operation in Jenin has concluded there was no massacre but it accuses the Israeli army of committing war crimes.

Ken Roth is the Executive Director of Human Rights Watch.
